I am running the New York City marathon. Me. The girl who used to say she wouldn’t run from a fire. The girl who went Paleo, partially because of their view on sprinting vs endurance training. The girl who has rarely run over two miles in the past year. And yet, here I am, officially registered to run 26.2 miles.
When the Huntingtons Disease Society of America put out the all call for charity runners, I applied with zero intention of actually getting in. I just applied to say I tried. Apparently I tried too hard. It went a little something like this:
The acceptance email came through. I panicked. I committed. I panicked. I ran to the library and checked out every training book they had. I set up a run with Teresa. I panicked. I started fundraising. I panicked. Almost in that order.
It still doesn’t feel real, but at least I can say it put loud now. I am running a full marathon. I am going to fundraise a minimum $3,000 for Huntington Disease Society of America. I am going back to New York City!
If you’d like to help me reach my goal, check out my fundraising link on the sidebar. 🙂
